[wish-info] USB patch for 2.4 kernels

I'm trying to install the latest wish-2.0.0 (just downloaded today) on
a Red Hat system running kernel 2.4.20. The installation instructions
say I must patch the kernel, and doing so is not a problem. But the
patch provided is for kernel 2.6.1 and doesn't come close to matching
the source code for 2.4.20. I'm at a loss as to what to patch. Ideas?

This system may move to a 2.6 kernel in a few weeks. However, I'd like
to get the Powerlinc USB working sooner than that. Should I fall back
to wish-1.something?

Dave,

The PowerLinc USB cannot work under the 2.4 series of kernels with the new
2.0 drivers because the USB HID drivers for 2.4 do not handle bi-directional
communications for more than 1 byte transfers. You cannot patch 2.4 to work
with the version 2.0 drivers.

Verion 1.6.9 includes its own drivers which are not HID compliant and it
will work with kernel 2.4. If you are using a serial X10 device like the
CM11A or the PowerLinc Serial, the 2.0 drivers will work on 2.4.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I was misled by the statements at
the top of the web page:
* PowerLinc USB now uses HID interface
* Drivers now work with 2.0 through 2.6 kernel versions
Perhaps some additional clarification on the page would be useful.
