[wish-info] help plse: x10attach can't set line discipline..

I'm very new to this and not necessarily a linux expert. I am trying to
bring up wish and have gotten all the way to trying to attach my CM11 to
the serial port.

the cm11a is found and the date is read from it

x10attach then fails with the following message..

can't set line discipline

I'm running linux 2.4.20 on rh 7.1 with all major fixes installed.

Any help would be most appreciated.
