However, they still show the 1132CU and 1132CUP available.
As best I can tell, these are also the v1.0 PowerLinc
models, but they contain onboard memory that the 1132U
lacks and come with Windows-based software. I know the
CU/CUP models draw their power from the AC powerline
whereas the 1132U draws it's power from the USB connection.
I do not know what else may be different between the
1132CU/CUP and the more basic 1132U.
Should my source for that used 1132U dry up, do you
know if the 1132CU will work with your software
as well (albeit with no functionality for that onboard
memory)?
Thanks -- Dave

In my experience, the PowerLinc USB version 1.0 is the best of the
transceivers. x10dev only supports the CM11A, PowerLinc USB 1.0 and
PowerLinc Serial 1.0. The version 2.0 of the PowerLinc's do not work
with the drivers due to licensing issues with SmartHome. SmartHome does
not appear to be interested in making it possible for opensource
projects to support their PowerLinc 2.0 products.
The drivers make an assumption that they are running on a always-on
server and that the server is intended to control the home and monitor
systems. It only support exactly the features that are in the X10
specification so it doesn't support macros or timers or any extra
features that the vendors put in it.
I hope SmartHome continues to sell the 1.0 versions.
Thanks,
Scott

Subject: [wish-info] Question? Best controller to use with x10dev?
Is there any general recommendation for which
controller works best with x10dev/Wish? Reliability,
build quality, sending signal strength, signal
reception sensitivity, etc.
CM11A? 1132B? 1132U?
I found the CK11A and 1132B still available as
a new sale, and a used 1132U I could pick up for
fairly cheap. Are any other controllers supported
(e.g., 1132CU or 1132CUP?)
With the onboard memory for timers and macros,
the CK11A seems to have the most features.
I realize I would need Heyu or some other
software to download to the CM11A, but my main
usage would be via the x10dev interface.
It looks like the INSTEON PowerLinc V2 devices
(2414U, 2414S, and 2814U) are not - and will not
be - supported due to SmartHome licensing agreements,
per a post I found in the mailing list archives.
Has anything changed in this regard or is this
still the case?
Thanks for any tips on which controller I should
choose.
